OK, that’s it! I am going to employ a large man to take a bat to my head! I’m hoping for full blown amnesia here.
Let me explain. I run a book group. I used to work in a bookshop and essentially books have been the biggest part of my life. But lately I’ve noticed something sad. It’s very rare that I pick up a book now and think I’m reading something new. Something that causes an intake of breath. Makes me want to climb into the book and walk with the characters.
So bring on the man with the bat. I can go back to when I learnt to read and have the first moments of real pure joy at reading.

Walk away from it for a while, it will probably come back to you fresh and new sometime in future months. I don’t know how old you are but I am 56 and know that with things that I am genuinely interested in, when I lose interest, the interest will come back renewed, maybe in a month, a season or a year or three.
Do you enjoy riddles that authors leave for their readers to find and solve?
Gabe, Soph is getting the gist of reading now, (to the point she’s very good at road signs – mummy that says 40 and you’re going 50!) and we’ve just started the journey into the Milly Molly Mandy series of books, it’s fantastic! Takes me back to being a kid and laying on my bed reading for hours (oh if only I had the time for THAT now) We love going to the library together, she thinks I’m silly getting all excited about how the books smell or the little notes that previous readers have left as bookmarks. Go back to where it all began, remember what it was that got you so interested in someone’s story, the moment that you realised that it was suddenly 3am and you’ve got school in the morning! x
sounds hideous!
I hope it’s a phase…

Me too. xxoo
